A very happy royal birthday to Queen Beatrix,

As you know, I don’t need any excuse to wear orange, ┬ábut today, all the daft Dutch in the world can go mad. I have to get my hands on one of these, uh huh huh:

This is a typical occasion for oranjegekte (orange craze), when the colour orange is a ubiquitous sight, referring to the name of the Dutch royal family, the House of Orange. There are orange banners, orange coloured foods and drinks, and extreme amounts of orange clothing and creative accessories are worn as well. Sometimes even the water in the fountains is dyed orange.

This is a great site to learn more about our weirdness:

Bonfire of the profanities

Another crammed week comes to a close.

Work is busy and enquiries are steadily building, despite the doom and gloom being posted by the media. In the States the number of banks now failed reached 100 yesterday, and it was announced that Britain is still in recession. But whatever you do, don’t be tempted to jump in head first like the guy on this Dutch commercial:

Time for a little R&R this weekend in the garden. The barbecue will be consigned to the back of the garage, and all the leaves that have fallen will be swept into a pile; and then my favourite, a huge bonfire! Not for the faint-hearted – I’m a pyromaniac in another life.
